This is the second half of the dulogy set during the London blitz of the second world war.
The historians travelling back in time from Oxford 2060 have found themselves stuck in the middle of the blitz with now easy way home. As the weeks and then months pass it becomes obvious that the people back in Oxford are finding it impossible to return toretrive their lost fellows and the two girls and Mike are forced to make a life amongst the locals. But they didn't just have to worry about the possibility of being blasted by Hitler's bombers - they knew where the bombs had fallen for the period of their mission but they were rapidly coming to the end of this temporal safe zone and Polly had another deadline approaching as she rapidly approached a time where she had already been... But also, it had long been believed that time travel had little material effect on the past but as the trio watch the headlines they begin to fear that this might not be the cast iron rule they had first thought! Meanwhile Merope had taken a couple of orphans under her wing so she was worried about what would happen both for if she was not found and if she wasn't...
This is another busy book, leading up to the main raid that almost destroyed Saint Paul's Cathedral and a bit after. We are also treated to Polly's earlier trip back to the later war years every so often along with the gent working for Operation Fortitude South, which might seem rather distracting at first but they do eventually tie back into the main dialogue
