Echoes of Honor
1998
The Manticorans have done the impossible! Broken out of a State Security Cruiser and blown it and a member of the Central Committee over the planetary system.
Now all they need to do is the extraordinary; escape from Hell!
Hell, the mythical prison planet of the People's Republic of Haven. Never acknowledged by the Legislative Powers, this planet housed the toughest of the toughest anti Peep agitators on systems throughout Haven's mighty empire. Now used by the People's Committee to house their most intractable opponents, it's existence is trumpeted though it's location is even more a tightly guarded secret.
All Honor and her people have to do is find a way of overturning the massive force advantage that State Security enjoys for Hades has not been terraformed and the prison camps rely on constant food drops for their food.
Back on Manticore and Grayson, Honor's home worlds, everyone is taken in by the faked video footage of her funeral. The funeral ceremonies were spectacular! And a unique way of overcoming the difficulties involved with passing on Harrington Steading had to be developed.
On the war front, a series of inspired strikes by the Peeps have got the Manticoran Alliance on the back foot as over-confident Manti commanders make errors of judgement.
This is the first Harrington book where the majority (just barely but...) of the story lines actually tell other people's stories representing a shift of emphasis away from Honor herself to her proteges within Manticoran service.
