Maskerade

1995

The witches coven in Lancre consisted of Three; Maiden, Mother, and, er, Eldest.

Now Magrat's gone off and married the king, the coven is down a member. So what should Nana Ogg and Granny Weatherwax do? Although she'd always decried the apparent senselessness of the tradition, Granny has to admit that it does have its advantages, particularly when there were cups of tea to be brewed! So the two witches start looking round at the local girls. Their best prospect looked on the offer with absolute horror.

She had plans!

She was going to Ankh-Morpork!

She was going to the Opera House to be a Prima Singer!

But once persuaded of the necessity Granny is determined that Agnes will be the Maiden and a trip to Ankh-Morpork is arranged.

Agnes, also known as Perditia, is a truly talented singer, but the new owner of the Opera House is not an opera buff, and not even on the Discworld does Opera actually cover it's running costs!

Death stalked the wings.

Is the Opera House haunted, or are there more mundane explanations for the backstage difficulties?

Will Nana and Granny get their way with Agnes?
