This edition Makes up the Riddle-Master trilogy, which consists of:

Riddle-Master of Hed
All Morgon of Hed is interested in is making sure that his little island of Hed remains peaceful and prosperous. But he is doomed not to remain in his Hall for long for there are Great Events brewing in the outside world. Besides, he has those stars on his brow that no-one could explain, and a sense of curiosity that had pushed him through the Riddle-Master's College at Caithnard in record time. A sense of curiosity that had forced him to answer Peren of Aum's challenge laid down half a millennium before. Though long dead, Peren's shade was bound to his tower waiting for someone to beat him in a riddling game to win his crown.

'Twas winning this crown that shattered Morgon's peace for the King of An had promised the hand of his daughter to the one who would win Peren's crown. A promise that Morgon had been unaware of while he was at college with her brother.

Informed of his prize by Deth, harper of the High One, Morgon risks the journey that had killed his parents a bare six months earlier. But after a stop-over in Caithnard to inform the Masters of the College of his success, alien forces take control of Morgon's destiny and he is forced on a journey to the far North to confront the High One but ancient powers seem bent on stopping him from reaching his destination.

Heir of Sea and Fire
Morgon has not been seen for ages and deadly news has come from Hed where the Land-Rule has passed to his brother. Raederle, his intended, is determined to get answers from the High One so she seizes on the chance of a visit to Caithnard. Also in Caithnard is the Morgol and her daughter, Lyra, who also desires to find out what has happened to Morgon. Together, they seize control of the ship that had brought Raederle to Caithnard and set sail for the North. It's not until they are well on their way that they find they have a companion - Morgon's sister, Tristan, who had sneaked aboard.

The three women sail North as Raederle becomes aware of powers that had been bequeathed her by an ancient ancestor. Powers that seemed to be shared by those attempting to kill her betrothed!

Harpist in the Wind
Raederle has finally caught up with Morgon, no longer prince of Hed, his Land Rule vilely stripped from his very being! Now they must uncover the mystery behind the empty throne of the High One and the strangers from the sea who appear to be so determined to break the High One's rule.

Can they both come to terms with their heritage before it is too late?
