It's 1972 and Captain Augustus 'Gus' Washington is the Chief Engineer of the British side of the Transatlantic Tunnel Project.
Despite his acknowledged abilities, Gus has always suffered from coming from the line of the Arch Traitor, George Washington who was executed for his rebellion against the king! A rebellion that left America still under the direct control of the Mother Country. But Gus is determined to prove that he is the man to make the project work when it runs into problems of funding. He is given the support of the Board to get the initial funding from reluctant American investors.
As well as reluctant investors and the difficulties of having to work in such hostile and unwelcoming depths, Gus and his workers find themselves working against agents of foreign powers would prefer that the Empire does not complete such a monumental task!
