This was the method used by the crew of the Liberator in "Blake's Seven", a BBC TV show of the late 70s, to get from their ship down to their destination. Although basically just Star Trek's Transporter with enough changes to satisfy the lawyers, there were a number of unique features. The most important of which was that the teleported crew member could activate the teleport device on the Liberator so long as they retained the bracelet that was part of the system. This also enabled the operator on the ship to track them overlaying their movements over a suitable map. After the Liberator was destroyed and the circuitry built into their new ship a watch had to be maintained on the system in order for a successful telport out to be achieved.
