This is basically the art of freezing people in a controlled fashion in order to be able to bring them back to life at a future time. The problem with current processes is that they produce ice crystals which rupture the finer blood vessels and cause irreversible brain damage. This is a part of the plot in the Niven, Barnes, Pournelle 'Heorot' series where the Original Colonists have all suffered varying degrees of frost damage.
