Coy Catastophe

The title given to that sub genre of story that deal with the results of a catastrophe. The nature of the catastrophe is not generally a major part of the story. What is important is how the catastrophe is handled in aftermath. You would often have a small group who would struggle against whatever the results of the catastrophe was in order to mitigate the effects on themselves. For some reason, British authors have been most closely associated with this kind of story though George R Stewart's 'Earth Abides', set in California, is a classic example.
