When Alvin took ship on the steamship The Yazoo Queen he has only a limited idea what would follow, but there was something strange about the reasoning behind the slaves also on the Queen. A mid river rescue reveals Alvin's powers to a fellow passenger.

Diane Gabaldon's Lord John and the Succubus relates an incident in the military campaigning of Lord John, who once knew a woman from the future.

Robert Silverberg's story of Majipoor tells of a time when the time of exploration had come to a halt on the massive planet of Majipoor and it's inhabitants were loosing sight of the vast sweep of history that lay behind them. Somehow, a dissolute courtier has to come up with a verse cycle that would satisfy the almost barbarian lord that held him prisoner.

Tad William's story continues the story of Orlando Gardiner after his untimely death and incarceration in the Otherland Network hidden away in the Worldwide Information Network.

When the Weyr Lady Moreta went Between after delivering the parcel of drugs to combat the influenza epidemic to Thaniel's Hold, he little realised that he would be the final person to see her alive. Unfortunately, he was the first person to see her dead too, for Moreta had mis-Jumped and could not pass on until her Queen's eggs had hatched.

Raymond E Feist's story tells the tale of a young man's activities one cold winter week as he travels round the Kingdom's camps with routine orders to pull back to their winter quarters. Unfortunately, the Tsurani are not so accommodating this year as in years past, and as he's already riding circuit, Terrance is the logical person to carry the warning...

When the island of Serendair was destroyed, a small band of people decided to stay behind making sure that order was maintained until the end. But there were more than humans waiting to take advantage of the forthcoming catastrophe...

The man called Shadow knew he was more than human, but not a god either, finds himself in Scottish Highlands as he tries to come to terms with his new life. Once there, he finds himself faced with an offer he can't really refuse, though those making the offer may come to regret it.

The concluding story is set in Terry Brooks' Shannara and follows Jaor Ohmsford as he comes to terms with his obsession with the past and his magical abilities.
