Originally a pen name, this became the legal name of Alice Mary Norton, born in 1912 and who died after a long illness, in the city of Cleveland Ohio in 2005 - Ms Norton was one of the authors who introduced me to Science Fiction in my early teens
She is one of the few female writers to have been active in the field since the end of WWII. Before taking up writing Alice Norton worked as a librarian.
Her science fiction stories are not worried about the effects of technology or overly concerned with it's use - indeed, they are often relatively anti technology often dealing with what happens when technology, whether Human, Alien or Ancient leaves it's users in the lurch.
As well as the Andre Norton pen name, Andre Norton also used the pen name Andrew North.
