Frank Herbert

(Born 1920, died 1986)

A US writer, he was born in Tacoma, Washington, and educated at the University of Washington, Seattle. Frank Herbert worked as a reporter and editor on a number of West Coast newspapers before becoming a full-time writer. He lived in Washington State.

Although he published a number of short stories, he made little impact at this length it was at novel length that he truly excelled. The ecology based nature of his work evident in the Dune books was carried through in his later books such as Hellestrom's Hive.
