Thought by many to be one of the most important figures in Science Fiction during the mid to late twentieth century. Most of his life was spent in California where much of his Science Fiction was also set, either in real locations or dystopian alternate histories. He married five times and had three children. His fiction was increasingly influenced by the flourishing drugs culture of his home state.
