Michael Bishop gained an MA in English from the University of Georgia and had his first story published in Galaxy in 1970. He quickly established himself as one of the more significant newcomers of the seventies. Despite displaying a level of complexity rarely seen in the science fiction field prior to the sixties, Michael Bishop does not owe much to the intellectual heritage of the New Wave of that decade.
