Prelude to Foundation

1988

Hari Seldon was a young man once, not the ill old man of the Simulacrum Chamber on Terminus.

This book starts with Hari arriving on Trantor, still the capital of a truly Galactic Empire, as a young mathematics professor presenting a paper on the possibilities of predicting the future. Naturally this is of great interest to a number of people, not least the Emperor and his enigmatic Chancellor, Eto Dezeral. Hari finds himself assigned to the University to create a working model despite having expressed his doubts as to the real practicalities of the theory.

Is everyone out to get Hari? It certainly seems so as he is chased from sector to sector with his colleague from the University.

Is everyone who they say they are? Who ever is! But we get to meet some very old friends in the course of the book and Hari learns why there are no longer any robots in the Galaxy.
